A Brick in the Valley

If Your Boss is Attila the Hun

When I was a youth pastor, one of things I was determined to do was have a good relationship with the senior pastor of our church.  To grow in that area, I memorized Proverbs 27:18,He who tends the fig tree will eat its fruit; And he who cares for his master will be honored (Proverbs 27:18).

The wisdom that this verse is that in our own best interests to look out for our bosses.  Think of your boss as a fruit tree.  If you take care of him or her, then you will eventually reap a reward.

At the same time, if you stand around at break every day with a chain saw, and saw your boss off at the knees, then don’t be surprised when he or she doesn’t bear any fruit.

I know, there is probably someone listening to this radio spot who works for a boss that makes Attila the Hun look like a nice guy.  Certainly some work for unreasonable people.

Still this is God’s wisdom.  Do all you can to build up the person to whom you report.  If you are successful, then you may be eventually honored.

Looking back on it all, I did better some days than others honoring the senior pastor when I was a youth pastor.  But, I did care for him and have benefited greatly from doing so.

He who tends the fig tree will eat its fruit; And he who cares for his master will be honored (Proverbs 27:18).

Hi Chris,
Thanks for visiting my blog. I can’t wait to visit you in person sometime! Enjoyed seeing the church’s web site. I called the church last week when you were out. Will try again today. I want to express our thanks to the church for their partnership with our ministry.
