Bye / Hi Painted Bunting

January 29, 2008

I honestly didn’t know what a bunting was — I thought it was something to do with what the guy called his daughter before he went hunting in the nursery rhyme.  (Note that the nursery rhyme didn’t work out so well for the rabbit).

But, one of my wife, Jamie, and I’s favorite blogs, Pollywog Creek, has some pictures of a painted bunting - - so I now know what Painted Buntings are in general, and I have met one in particular, on the banks of Pollywog Creek.

Another Rutherford Quote

January 29, 2008

“Therefore, as night-watchers hold one another waking by speaking to one another, so have we need to hold one another on foot.”  Samuel Rutherford.  The Loveliness of Christ, Banner of Truth edition, page 47.

My thought: Oh, the necessity of the Body of Christ, and the need to spur one another on towards love and good works (Heb 10:24).

I Have a Case of the Mondays

January 29, 2008

I’m not sure what Gunny means when he says, “A case of the Monday’s,” but, whatever he means, I’ve got it.

I usually have what I call “sermonic hangover” on Monday.  Yesterday was our Annual Meeting (which went great!) and I have a severe case.  I’ve managed to do some tax work - - scoop some snow - - and take a walk.  I just finished reading Jack and the Bean Stalk to Mary Beth (our five year old) –  other than that, I am unproductive.

What About Those Who Have Never Heard?

January 23, 2008

Dr. Al Mohler on Joel Osteen

January 19, 2008

Listen to this podcast where Dr. Mohler “takes the measure” of Joel Osteen’s ministry.

Mohler first considers the declining ratio of men to women on college campuses - - The material on Osteen begins about 30% into the program . . .

Mohler gives Osteen’s birth date and Joel is my senior by 6 days.  I know this will be of great interest to you, my readers.
